THE VALUE OF POLICE AND COMMUNITY HARMONY
Support That Makes a Difference
POLICE AND COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS NOT ONLY AFFECTS A PERSON’S EMOTIONAL REACTION TO THE COMMUNITY THEY ARE A PART OF, BUT IT ALSO IMPACTS THE ECONOMICS OF THAT COMMUNITY. THE COMFORTABILITY TO WALKING UP TO YOUR LOCAL POLICE OFFICER TO VOICE CONCERNS IS INTEGRAL TO THE SENSE OF SAFETY IN A COMMUNITY. HIGH CRIME RATE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTS HOME VALUES IN COMMUNITIES. POLICE SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS AN OCCUPYING FORCE, RATHER AN EVER-PRESENT MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY THAT WILL ALWAYS BE SEEN AND AVAILABLE. A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY THAT LIVES, WORKS, AND IS AN ACTIVE PARTICIPATE IN THE WELL-BEING FOR ALL MEMBERS THAT MAKE UP THE COMMUNITY. LET US COME SPEAK AT YOUR POLICE DEPARTMENT, NEXT COMMUNITY MEETING, OR WORK EVENT.
Examples of some of our focus points are:
Educating officers on a community policing approach
Passively listening vs. actively listening
Isolation inside of patrol cars vs. stopping to speak to individuals (by name) about how their day is going.
Taking an out-of-the box approach to problems in the community.
Example. High juvenile crime? Speak to the juvenile to determine why this is their option; Boredom, broken home, lack of access to resources? All of these can be address by connecting the right people in the community together. These are not addressed by arrest.
